Description

I simply had to submit this little piece of collage out of several screencaps.
When you compare the old pictures with the new ones, respectively those from working lines and original lines, you see what a far cry many of the show dogs are and how distorted our knowledge of these dogs has actually become thanks to it.
They are not in here but the Chow-chow was claimed in Dogs101 as being a sled dog but also prone to overheating, which should make anybody at least have raised eyebrows, However I have a picture of a Chow from 1915 and they look nowhere like the ones advertized today.
Also you can see here a "newer" version of the bulldog that is closer in phenotype to the actual bullbaiters than the "classic" ones.
In addition when you look at the original Shar-Pei and the working Neapolitan everybody should at least question the explanation for both breeds wrinkling in the show ring. In the Shar-pei its claimed that the wrinkles are there for protection, weird that the original version barely has any.
And for the Neapolitan I read on a breeders website once that the looks should make them look fierce and make them good guard-dogs. But does that look fierce with all the wrinkles?

I have other pictures of old and newer version, perhaps I will show them as well.

The american bulldog is a direct descendent of the old english bulldog, though.
